Andrew, what a beautiful and vulnerable post. I am grateful that you survived your ordeal and that you are able to lend your important perspective in this discussion. God bless you. 🙏
Countless Canadians appreciate your work and your voice. I for one I'm very glad that you are here. I used to be a volunteer with Dying with Dignity. But over the past 2 years I've had to rethink my positions.
The covid crisis has really shown the dark underbelly of our healthcare system and of government and public health in particular. I trust none of them these days. I used to believe there were safeguards around medical assistance in dying. Now I'm not so sure.
So thankful you found the help to get you through a difficult, dark time in your life. We are grateful you are here today doing the work you do. Thank you for sharing this very personal experience and for shining a light on how despicable this new “healthcare service “ will be . Our country seems to be intent on destruction in all areas of society. My husband and I had the chance to shake your hand and thank you for all your work a couple of weeks ago and we are so grateful for all your talent, writing and reporting as a voice of reason. You give us hope in this dark time of Canada’s history.
This is heartbreaking. So many young people are giving up without the option of a plan to fight for themselves or their survival. It’s easy enough to become depressed these days with the calamity we see all around us but it is clearly so much harder for those, regardless of age, to survive these confusing and divisive times alone and suffering from mental illness. There is no excuse for it. Dying with dignity is dying with love, comfort and respect. Thank you Andrew for being the incredibly strong and accomplished man that you are and caring enough for others that you would share your own personal story of survival. You, your family and the professionals who fought alongside you are the model that we should be following. Thank you all!
Thank you for your touching story. I for one am very glad you are here and advocating for a better society. Your demeanor and humor are wonderful to watch and I enjoy all your shows and articles. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for sharing. Your words/experience could make a real difference to those suffering themselves. A university friend killed herself after suffering from bi-polar. She was about 21, and those left behind were never the same. Her mother killed herself about a year later, leaving a son and husband. It still makes me feel sick to think about it.
I am appalled with what I see happening in Canada. MAID was pushed on my elderly father. I worked in mental health, and I also have had postpartum anxiety, so I understand how difficult it is to get out of a particular way of thinking.
I'm glad you found your way back. The world is most certainly better for it.
I am so very grateful you are still with us Andrew. You are making a difference, each and every day. Thank you for sharing your story. It is incredibly brave of you. I've lost family and friends to suicide. They hid their dark thoughts, so well. I hope that by you baring your soul and what you went through, it helps even one person. Keeps them with us. Things need to change here, as I see more and more people struggling with depression and despair, living on the streets. What our governments' are doing IS NOT working. I don't know what the answer is, as it is very complex, but encouraging them to kill themselves? It makes me so very angry, and question our humanity. Any one that supports this bill? Shame. Shame on all of them.
Andrew, your candour is truly courageous, thankfully healthcare did it’s job! Your clear, concise and fair reporting are refreshingly compelling and you have pulled me through a very stressful time. You brought sanity back to my life! I loved your book!
Your story resonates deeply within me, I too when I was 32 went through the same ordeal. If MAID was available back then I too would not have been here today. I was able to with the help of a caring psychiatrist and 2 weeks in a hospital get better with time. The worst part if MAID had of been there at that time, my family, kids and parents would have been devastated and I realize even now I would have been very selfish doing that to them. Thank you for sharing this personal and vulnerable story with us.
What a trial you underwent, and a victor! Thank God. You are a blessing to millions of us who learn from and enjoy your investigative journalism, writings (and musings), commentary and opinions. Again, thank God for whatever He used to help you not give up on life, and on us.
Thank you for sharing your story. I pray it will help others considering the direction of MAID. God bless you, dear Andrew. Nicole Beaudoin

Dear Andrew Andrew Andrew, the world would NOT be a better place with you NOT in it.
I realize that is a badly written sentence but it is true never the less.
Keep a gratitude journal for any possible "down" day that may come along. (as it does to all of us)
I appreciate all of the excellent work that you do. I am glad you were born!! I am glad you are living life.
Thank you for sharing your personal story. I am one of countless people that are grateful you never succeeded. Your story was obviously not done.
